Crime Scene Investigation

Made up crime investigation…

Scenario: A man is walking down an old decrepit street. He is about 5 feet and 11 inches tall. His is wearing a dark grey trench coat. He has a white beard that is a complete mess. He walks with shame keeping his head down. People don’t know this but he is a broken man; he has no house, no job, and no one that care for him.

Crime scene: The Durango Police received a call at 3:32am saying that there was a murder. Two people were killed. One that was male, and one that was female. The couple was walking downtown and got jumped by what sounds like a group of people but evidence shows that it was only one person. It happened right outside Carvers restaurant, and both victims where shot through the head.

Though doing a csi experience crime investigation activity with Gordon, we learned how to properly investigate real crimes. This was on a computer and everything was fake. Through this we had to examine a body, analyze DNA, analyze toxins, and converse with suspects. With Analyzing DNA this requires looking at fingerprints, hair, and saliva.

Investigation:

The police investigate the crime and collect suspects. They find fingerprints on the gun, which was lying right by the male victim. They figure out that there was a witness to this crime. A man named Frank, who is a homeless man and happened upon the crime.

Frank is very scared and confused. He has a problem with alcohol and he is put to shame for that reason. The police ask him grilling questions scaring Frank. He confesses that he was drunk the night of the crime and doesn’t remember much. The Police are sure that Frank did it.

However, the fingerprints on the gun do not fit Frank’s fingerprints. They fit the male victims fingerprints. There was no body else that physically saw the crime but Frank.

The bar man was closing Carvers at the time heard the whole thing. The police ask him what he heard. He said that the couple was arguing with each other and the male was very drunk. The female looked very scared as she followed the male out the door. Then he heard a sound of surprise and an old voice shouting angrily. Then there were two gunshots.

Frank is arrested for suspected murder. And set for trial. The court sentences him guilty and gives him 50 years to life in prison.

What really happened:

The male victim is named John. The female victim is name Sophie. John and Sophie went into Carvers for a drink late at night. About 12:30. John got a little carried away and got really drunk. John had a rough background and is known for violence. Sophie got drunk too but not to the degree of John.

The Bar man said it was time to close and kicked the couple out of Carvers.  John drunk had a gun in his Jacket. He got really angry at the bar man and almost shot him. Then Sophie tried to control John from going back into the restraint and making trouble. John reacted and shot Sophie. John realized what he just did and then shot himself.

We also listened to a radio broadcast were it told stories of real cases where people have been wrongly accused for doing crimes they didn’t do. One guy spent 15 years in prison before they proved he was guilty. The recent DNA investigating is a revolution for the justice community because it involves more accurate scientific evidence to find the truth. This will help many people avoid wasting years in prison and live happier lives.

Forks Over Knives

Forks Over Knives

We often don’t realize how important our diet is. As a runner, my diet has been pretty good. But you look around the world, especially the U.S and realize we do not look as we should. The Obesity rate the U.S is 35%, that one third of our population. It sad to me, to look around and see this illness growing so steadily.

Forks Over Knives is a documentary about the importance of Nutrition in our daily lives. Mainly the film features people with heart disease and other severe sicknesses. Two doctors explore the plant-based diet to see how effective it really is. Their unhealthy patients under go a strict plant based diet, which indeed will save their lives.

What struck me about this film is how much happier the patients under going the diet became. The started to loose more and more weight, gaining ten times more energy and happiness. Their heart troubles faded away, and they were healed. One lady, a marathon runner, diagnosed with cancer, desperately took on this plant-based diet and miraculously fought through the cancer. This film inspired me so much I began to re-think my diet. I found myself lowering the amount of animal products I consume, and focus on eating mostly plants and vegetables. This film was awesome, and I encourage you to watch it, Forks Over Knives.
